Harborough Town 6 v 1 Welford Victoria

Harborough Town lifted their first piece of silverware in ten years by beating local rivals Welford Victoria comfortably in the Russell Roofings Division One Knock Out Cup.
Harborough started brightly in Monday’s clash and went close through Danny Wright with a headed effort and a stinging left foot drive.
With so much at stake, the passing football Harborough fans are used to was not really on show in the first half, and the game became a battlefield.
Harborough did take the lead after 30 minutes when an Andy Wilson cross was excellently diverted pass the oncoming keeper by Paul Lewis.
Welford then had their best period of the game, forcing a series of long throw-ins from Rob Edge which caused some concern to the Harborough defence.

Half time –  Harborough Town 1 v 0 Welford Victoria

After the break Welford nearly scored straight from the kick off with a great effort from the left winger who cut in and narrowly missed the far post.
That signalled a Harborough wake up call, and Town took control. A couple of corners led to Ben Gamble hammering the ball into the roof of the net.
Minutes later Wright got in on the act holding off the defender to drill the ball pass the advancing keeper.
Wright then scored his second after a lovely through ball from man of the match Ash Robinson.
A slight blip allowed Welford a consolation, a headed goal from Marcus Crone from a corner but Town continued to press and an awesome run and finish from Robinson regained the four-goal advantage.
Town rang the changes with Longley, Steed and Bates coming on for Gamble, Lewis and Hunt and it led to Wright completing his hat-trick.
The management and the players thanked both teams’ supporters for making the occasion so memorable.
Another trophy was awarded to Harborough Manager Andrew (Stan) Wilson as her picked up the Boost Active Manager of the Month award for March with 5 out of 5 victories, only conceding 1 goal and scoring 20.
