Weldon United A 2 v 1 Welford Victoria Res
in our second Cup final it was a game of two teams in two halves, the first went the way of Weldon who had excellent possession of the ball, with just a couple breaks from Welford. Within two minutes this Weldon United had caught Welford asleep, with a corner coming over from Damien Burton and Andrew Sweeny hit it on the volley from 20yards to put Weldon 1-0 up and Welford back peddling from the off. it wasn't until the 40th minute when Austin Milne picks the ball up from the halfway line and takes it down the right hand side pass the Welford defence and slots it across the keeper into the left hand side of the net 2-0 to Weldon.
All could have changed on the stroke of half time, when Welford have a free kick from 25 yards out and Alex Broadbent fires it over the wall and the Weldon keeper Scott Corr sees it late and just manages to tip it over the bar for them to go in at have time with a two goal advantage.
Half time – Weldon United A 2 Welford Victoria 0
The second half began and it was Welford come out the strongest and that had most of the possession, with shots at the Weldon goal every couple of minutes, it was 20 minutes before Andrew Sweeny puts the Welford keeper under pressure as Weldon have a chance to extend their lead, and seemed to inspire them for a couple of minutes, Ross Weston pulls one back with 20 minutes left and still Welford put pressure on the Weldon defence (what happened to the team Weldon put out in the first half?), it looked like Welford could pulls this off, Welfords Russell Hill volleys the ball goal bound, it should be in the oppositions goal only for Weldons Robert Burton to head the ball off the goal line, to keep their tender lead. With only injury time remaining, a shot from 20 yards from dangerman Alex Broadbent seemed to be dropping fast, its in the net, the crowd gasp, its going into extra time, NO the ball hits the back of the crossbar to leave the final score 2-1 to Weldon.
