Duston Garage Division 2 Cup Final- 08/04/15 A very good crowd welcomed the Spratton and Wellingborough Rising Sun players to Fernie Fields for this eagerly  awaited contest. Spratton started well and had two chances in the first ten minutes. Rising Sun steadied themselves and after neat build up play Ben Wharton headed them in front after 20 minutes. The same player started to pose problems for Spratton and he headed against the bar five minutes later. Spratton nearly equalised on the half hour when   Tyler Amphlette made a great save to preserve the lead . The save became even more important just before halftime when Ben Wharton scrambled the ball home from a corner to make it 2-0. Rising Sun thought they had put the game to bed when they scored on the hour but a correct offside decision kept the score at 2-0. Shortly after Spratton scored with Richard Kimbell heading a fine goal from a delightful free kick. In the last fifteen minutes Spratton threw everyone forward and the Rising Sun goal lead a charmed life. Rising Sun held out and Ben Wharton deservedly won the man of the match. Referee Matt Paul had another consistent game during a fine season. The splendid 60 year old trophy   from the old Kettering Amateur League was presented by league chairman Michael Owen to captain Conor Gordon.  14/04/ 15: Duston Garage Premier Division Milton played host to Harpole and only managed to get to field 11 players against in form Harpole and they were made to pay with Harpole winning 6-0. Goals from: Alex Deakin, Shaun Markie, Dean Mills, Lee Nash, Daniel Sturridge and Gary Purton. Corby Eagles done their fight for top spot no harm with a 5-0 away win over Kettering Nomads gaols from: David Sheridan x3, Chris Caswell and Brian Farrell. James King Blisworth who are fighting it out with Corby Eagles for top spot did themselves a favour with a 3-1 win over Earls Barton. Blisworth goals from: Daniel Chilton, Mark Faulkner and Barry Swallow. Earls Barton reply from Nathan Burrows. Welford Victoria made the trip to Corby Locos worthwhile with a 4-0 win moving them up the table. Welford goals from: Craig Cassidy x2, Brad Downing and Thomas James. Corby S&L Khalsa kept Stanion Red Star rooted to the bottom of the table with a 2-1 home win. Duston Garage Division Two  Higham Town had a very good home win over 2nd placed Wellingborough Rising Sun by 3-2. Higham goals from: Richard Charlton, Mark Seaman and an own goal. Rising Suns reply from: Mark Fletcher and Tony Walker. Duston Garage Division Three  Northampton Obelisk played host to Northampton Mereway and it was Mereway that took the points with a 4-0 win. Mereway goals from: Andy Wimpress x3 and Stuart Reid. Desborough & Rothwell United made the trip over to Corby United worthwhile with a convincing 7-1 win to put them on top of the table. Desborough & Rothwell goals from: Geoff Butler x5 and Matthew Bass x2. Corby Strip Mills had a local derby against Corby Kingswood and the visitors Kingswood came away with the points winning 3-2. Kingswoork goals from: Daniel Maia x3. Duston Garage Reserve Premier Division One  Weldon United Reserves played host to local rivals Corby Grampian Reserves and the game finished all square at 2-2. Weldon goals from: Aaron McKay x2. Grampian goals from: Craig Ginns and Daniel Loughran. 18/04/2015 Duston Garage Premier Division 3rd placed Gretton hosted 2nd placed Corby Eagles in a close game. Not long into the game and Bobby Drain scored from 25 yards into the bottom corner giving Gretton the early lead 1-0. Eagles had a couple of chances, one going over the goal and a close one going past the post. A good volley from Paddy Daniels makes the score even and the first half finished 1-1. 10minutes into the second half and David Sheridan scored to give Eagles the upper hand 1-2. Gretton fought hard to get an qualiser but Chris Caswell scored for Eagles making it 1-3. Gretton fire into the back of the net to put themselves back into the game 2-3. Gretton worked hard to try and get another goal but Eagles held them off well. Final score: Gretton 2-3 Eagles. Eagles are in with a chance of winning the league title and have one game in hand over current league leaders James King Blisworth. Earls Barton United travelled away to Brixworth All Saints who lie close to them in the league and were not left disappointed after bringing home the points after a close 2-1 win. Both teams close in the league 13th placed Kettering Nomads found 4th placed Welford Victoria too strong for them and lost out 3-0. Ringstead Rangers proved to be no match for an in form Harpole after being beaten 4-1. Harpole have games in hand on the teams above them. Roade managed to hold high flying James King Blisworth to a 1-1 draw in a game where Blisworth needed 3 points to be in with a good chance of winning the league. Duston Garage Division 1 Burton United had a comfortable 2-0 win over Corby Pegasus to keep themselves in 3rd place. Burton goals from: Jamie Bastow-Fane. Kettering Orchard Park couldn’t make home advantage count and lost out 4-1 to Medbourne. League leaders Daventry Drayton Grange suffered their 3rd loss of the season after being beaten 3-0 by Weedon. Daventry remain top with 2 games in hand. Weedon goals from: Ashley Brown and Daniel Jennings x2. Wilby hosted Corby Ravens in a bottom table clash which saw Wilby come out on top 4-3. Ravens goals from: Grieg Hussain x3. Duston Garage Division 2 Fined on Volta gave champions Corby Shamrock a very good game with Fined on just losing out by the odd goal Shamrock winning 2-1. Grange Park Rangers secured their 6th win in 24 games by beating Higham Town by 4-2 to lift them off bottom of table on their last game. Duston Garage Division 3 Inter Corby could not make home advantage count going down 1-0 to much improved Irthlingborough Town with a goal from Jake Howe. Irthlingborough Rangers are still in the drop zone after a home defeat at the hands of Corby Strip Mills by 5-2 with 2 games to go. Strip Mills goals from: Michael Masson x3 and Daniel Ward x2 Northampton Obelisk played host to local rivals Northampton Spartak who are having a good first season in the Combination winning 4-0 to move in to 2nd spot with one game to play. In another all Northampton game Northampton Falcons United and Northampton Mereway fought out a thrilling 3-3 draw. Goals for Mereway coming from: Martyn Fletcher, Andy Wimpress and sub James Brown. Wellingborough Gleneagles who in the last few weeks have lost their way could not make home advantage count going down 7-5 to Yardley United both sides have two games left. Gleneagles goals from: Connor Hartwell x2, Jordan May x2 and Peter Norris. Duston Garage Reserve Division 1  Medbourne Reserves could not make home advantage count against 3rd placed Weldon United ‘A’ and finished up losing 5-1 to Weldon. Weldon goals from: Chris Reid x2, Kieran Harper, Jack Hearne and Andrew Merrell. Duston Garage Reserve Division 2 Bugbrooke ‘B’ recovered well from their defeat in the league cup to record another win over Higham Town Reserves by 2-0 to keep them on track for the title with 3 games to go. Goals from: Calum Smith and Luke Tate. Daventry Drayton Grange Reserves who are one point above 2nd placed Bugbrooke ‘B’ recorded a 4-0 away win over West Haddon Reserves. Daventry goals from: Ryhs Collins x3 and an own goal. Drayton Grange Reserves play Bugbrooke ‘B’ in their last game which could be title decider. In the late kick off Wellingborough Gleneagles Reserves made home advantage count over Corby Shamrock Reserves with a 2-0 victory. Gleneagles goals from: Connor Hartwell x2.
