Representative Team
Building on
their recent success against Rothwell Corinthians the revitalised
Representative side gained revenge for their defeat at the Focus Centre
last season, by dominating the return tie with the Peterborough &
District League.
The visitors
edged the opening exchanges until the hosts got into their stride,
playing a passing game that stretched the game and allowed them to
dictate the tempo. With
fifteen minutes on the clock, Ryan Hill was the first to capitalise on
this firing in from distance, leaving the visiting ‘keeper grasping at
thin air. Jack Burrows doubled the advantage ten minutes later, powering
home from a corner.
Bobby Drain’s
cut-back allowed Craig Cassidy to put real daylight between the two
sides shortly before the break, as he headed home to give the hosts a
3-0 half-time lead.
Drain got his
reward for his hard work almost immediately after the restart, finishing
off a fine passing move, to round the goalkeeper and slot home for the
fourth strike of the night.
The fourth goal
seemed to propel the visitors into action but the Combination defence
were resolute and steadfast and contained everything their opponents
threw at them until an error shortly before time. A 40 yard free kick
was floated into the host’s penalty area, and should have been easily
dealt with. However Ryan Hill instead thumped his header beyond his own
goalkeeper to give the Peterborough League a consolation goal.
