Khalsa for taking their first points in 5 trips to Harpole.
Sure-fire
Saturday!!
§ 235 Goals!
§ 6 hat-tricks (including a 4 and 5 goal haul)
§ 20 braces!
Russell Roofing Premier Division:
Recent history was greatly in favour of Harpole as they prepared to face
Corby Khalsa. Having taken a mammoth twenty points from their last eight
league meetings, the defending champions could have been forgiven for
expecting another three points to come their way. However, despite James
Sweeney’s brace, Khalsa levelled to take a share of the spoils, and only
their second point in five visits, with a 2-2 draw.
Across the A45, Kislingbury’s marksmen were also in the hunt for
goals as they took on Corby Pegasus. Doubles from Duncan Eade, and
Darren Inns ensure that points belonged to the hosts, as they overcame
determined opposition to triumph 5-3. Heyford completed a treble for
South Northants sides, with a 2-1 victory at Moulton. Milton were left
shell-shocked as Harborough Town smashed in eight, with Tom Robson (2)
leading the charge. Callum Snooks grabbed a consolation for the home
side. Meanwhile, Weldon United bucked the trend for Corby sides as they
secured a 2-0 win away at Medbourne.
Keystone Roofing Supplies Division 1:
For every action, there is a reaction, and the match between Stanion and
Blisworth proved just that. The visitors’ excellent forward play was
countered by a disastrous showing at the back, as defensive blunders
gifted the hosts four goals, before Alan Normar’s late dipping drive,
set up a nervous finish. Joe McCann struck twice for the hosts, whilst
Blisworth’s Mark Cross bagged three as the visitors held on for a narrow
6-5 victory. A Steve Gibson double put Kingfisher on the way to opening
day joy, as they ran out 5-1 winners at Finedon Volta.
Solo efforts from Carlton Ellwood, and Tony Abbot for Stanwick
and Earls Barton earned their respective sides a point apiece. Wootton’s
lengthy journey to Daventry Drayton Grange saw them return empty-handed,
with the home side nicking it with a 1-0 win. Spratton find themselves
in familiar territory at the wrong end of the table as visiting rivals
Welford returned home with a 3-2 result.
Rothenberger Group Division 2:
It was not the result that many expected when Bective travelled to
Burton United. The home side’s Stephen Hendry proved that he is
sure-shot just like his namesake, notching twice as they sunk the
favourites 4-2. Dark horses Gretton failed to capitalise, as Weedon
frustrated them with a 3-3 draw. The home side’s Matt Farrell fired home
a double in the tie. Michael Kerfoot (2) and Gareth Walker’s supporting
strike were enough to secure the points for Danesholme Vikings at
Wollaston, 3-2 the final score. Newly promoted Great Doddington got off
to the best possible start with a 3-1 away win at Orchard Park, while
Strip Mills defeated Ristee Towers, 2-0.
Division 3:
With Ise Lodge not playing, the race was on to secure an early
advantage, something that Corby Locomotives did with aplomb. Dainite
found themselves swept aside as a James McKay hat-trick, braces from
Jamie Cairns and David Clark, and singles from Brian’s Farrell and
Forbes secured a 9-0 away win. Wilbarston succumbed to a 5-1 away defeat
at the hands of Wellingborough Rising Sun, for whom Tony Walker scored
three times. Connor Hartwell and Dean King scored the crucial goals that
ensured the Wilby earned the bragging rights and points with a 4-2 derby
win over Wellingborough Saxons. Corby Everards and Crick cancelled each
other out with an entertaining 4-4 draw, whilst Wellingborough WMC put 4
past Staverton without reply. Hillmorton rounded out the day with 2-1
home win over Corby Eagles.
Division 4:
Of the four debutant sides, it was the two Higham outfits that emerged
with any reason to smile. Tom Sinclair and Dave Munt scored FC Higham’s
goals as they defeated Corby Hearth 2-0. Rivals Higham Dragons edged out
CSV 3-2. Kingswood received a rough introduction to the division as they
were outclassed by Long Buckby Ravens, who prevailed in a 6-3 victory.
Steve O’Brien led the Ravens line weighing in with a brace. They fared
better than Finedon Kennedy’s however, who were taught a lesson in
finishing by AFC Wymington. Jay Connelly (2) was the pick of the
scorers, as Wymington romped home to a 7-1 win. Darren Harrison netted
two of Corby Talismans goals as they secured a 5-2 home win over
Yardley.
Duston Garage (Bosch Service) Reserve
Premier Division:
Craig Finnis’ double for Moulton was eclipsed by his opposite number
Victor Carvalho who troubled the score-keepers on 4 occasions as Corby
Khalsa secured a fine 7-2 home win. The defending champions’ misery was
compounded late on with an unfortunate own goal. Paul Lewis was another
hot-shot, putting two past Harpole Reserves in the course of Harborough
Town’s 5-0 home win. Last season’s runners-up Roade, drew 2-2 with
Whitefield Norpol, while Lee Moore snaffled three in Milton’s 4-0 win at
ON Chenecks. Corby Pegasus
and Kislingbury drew 2-2. Ten of Weldon’s goals were shared between five
players as they demolished Bugbrooke ‘A’ 12-0. Chris Madden, Kieran
Harper, Sean Fraser, Sean Mason, and David Thompson all top the club’s
scoring chart with two apiece.
Reserve Division 1:
Dale Lewis found a rich vein of form in pre-season, and that continued
as he notched five of Blisworth’s goals in their 9-0 blitzing of Finedon
Volta. Simon Trussler (2), John Pell, and Matt Farr completed the rout.
Ian Grant doubled up as Heyford eased to a 4-1 win at home to Stanion.
Corby Loco’s match with Wollaston saw another nine goals. Unlike the
first team however, these were shared between the sides, 6-3 in the
hosts favour. Weldon’s ‘A’ side could not match their counterparts in
the division above, going down 2-1 to Orchard Park. Bugbrooke ‘B’ fared
better than their club mates in the division above as they drew 3-3 with
Ringstead. Wootton frustrated Medbourne whose long journey proved
fruitless in the end after Chris Lowe’s effort secured the points for
the Villagers 2-1.
Reserve Division 2:
Islip United completed a miserable day for Dainite, thumping their
reserves 10-2. Carl Bailey hit the target three times, ably supported by
Jamie Fane who chipped in with a brace. Leo Adams, Adam Hope, Fraser
Smith and Keiran Moore all registered before Dainite’s luck was cruelly
summed up, as they put through their own net. Chris Cowley scored in
each half as Weedon saw off the challenge of Crick 3-2. Earls Barton
sent Wilby back up the Wellingborough Road with their tails firmly
between their legs as Phil Clarke, Dave Young and Sam Weller each netted
to secure a 3-0 win.
Relegated sides Harpole and Spratton shared the points with a
disappointing 1-1 result.
