MDH Teamwear Northants Combination League Report

Duston Garage (Bosch Service) Star Award :
Awarded to Premier Division side Queen Eleanor Great Houghton for ending Harborough Town's run of 7 straight wins dation back to April 11th

With 23 players firing in braces, 3 players bagged four and 2 players struck fivers it was another good week for goals.

Northamptonshire FA Area Cup:
Gavin Oliff may have himself a new superstition after his exploits this week in the tie between Weedon Reserves and Charlton. Whatever his pre-match routine involved certainly worked as he single-handedly accounted for the opposition, scoring all of the goals in Weedon’s 5-0 win. While nobody else in the competition came close to his sharpshooting tally, there were a further five marksmen who found braces in abundance.  Steve Musgrave chalked his up for Wollaston Reserves in their 3-2 win away at ON Chenecks ‘A’, and Steve Harrison, and Darren Harrison marked their names twice as Corby Everards and Corby Talisman beat Yardley Gobion Reserves and Harpole ‘A’ by the same scoreline. Ryan Knight and Jon Ogden rounded out the quintet with their strikes as Stanwick Reserves saw off Middleton Cheney Reserves 4-1.
Sam Desborough struck the winner for Finedon Volta in their entertaining 4-2 away to Corby Kingswood, and Andy Renaldson popped up for Kettering Park Rovers in their 3-2 home win against Earls Barton Reserves.
Daventry Drayton Grange provided the days other high spot against opposition from other leagues as they nicked a win away at Wicken Sports 4-3. Sadly the other fixtures went in favour of the Peterborough and Northampton Town leagues. Werrington and Kingscliffe dumped out Orchard Park Reserves and Locomotives Reserves respectively, while Weldon ‘A’ and Heyford Reserves went out to Town League sides Blisworth ‘A’ and Strip Mills Reserves. West Haddon Reserves, Old Grammarians Reserves, Spratton Reserves, Wootton Reserves and Crick Reserves will all represent the league in the second round after their opening round wins.

Russell Roofing Premier Division:
Harborough Town surprisingly dropped points, and subsequently one place in the table as they lost their 100% record to struggling Premier Division new-boys Queen Eleanor.  The 0-0 stalemate allowed Kislingbury to leap-frog them into second place after their 1-0 win at Moulton. Harpole and Roade both recorded their second wins of the season, grabbing five goals each in the process. The reigning champions cruised to a 5-2 win at Corby Pegasus, while the men from Connelly Road were made to work for their points, sneaking the victory 5-4 at Heyford. The irrepressible Jay Vieyra netted again for Whitefield Norpol as they moved clear of the danger zone with a 3-1 home win. Vanquished opponents Milton continue to languish however. Medbourne’s woes increased as they lost 2-1 to rivals Brixworth All Saints. Weldon show no sign of relinquishing top spot after they defeated neighbours Khalsa 2-1.

Keystone Roofing Supplies Division 1:
Four braces and a hattrick were recorded in Division 1 this week. Leigh Chapman grabbed the treble as a rampant Finedon side put five past Spratton without reply. Fellow strugglers Cold Ashby shipped six against Kettering Nomads and stay rooted to the bottom of the table. Craig Furlow netted twice for Nomads. Micky Ryan’s solo effort keeps Wootton within touching distance of leaders Drayton Grange, who maintained their two point advantage with a 2-1 win over Stanwick. Doubles from Lee Genner and Kieran Doherty helped Kingfisher to a derby day 5-2 win over Stanion. Scott MacDonald hit a consolation brace for the visitors. Ringstead meanwhile pulled level on points with hosts Welford after a 3-1 victory.

Rothenberger Tools Division 2:
A chink of light appeared in the grey cloud over Woodford as Ristee Towers finally secured their first point of the season away to Burton United. Jamie Hunter scored for the hosts before Rob Thompson netted the equaliser for Ristee. Danesholme Vikings made it five wins from five as a Patrick Daniels double propelled them to a 3-1 win over Great Doddington. Strip Mills stay second after an own goal ended the challenge of Weedon, 2-1 the final score.
Steve Chilton and Saul McCracken both doubled up as Gretton steamrollered Islip 8-1. Old Grammarians also had two brace baggers in Perry Nimmo and James Westly as they defeated local rivals Wollaston 5-2. The ties between Clipston and Bective, and Ranelagh and Orchard Park both finished 1-1.

Division 3:
Ise Lodge took advantage of Everards cup commitments and moved into top place with a 10-2 thumping of Wilby. Luke Churchill and Luke McIllroy netted four each. Rising Sun went third after holding of the challenge of Staverton Park Rangers to win 6-4. Tyler Amphlett and Wayne Bordin both secured braces for the victors. Wilbarston twice went ahead in the first half but had to fight back from a goal down in the second as their tie with Crick finished 4-4. Neil Loake completed his brace with the crucial final equaliser. Corby Eagles  soared above Dainite, smashing in seven goals. Sean Mitchell’s treble and Tom Henderson’s brace ensured that Dainite now have a mountain to climb to secure safety. Wellingborough WMC and Hillmorton shared a 2-2 draw.

Division 4:
A free week for AFC Wymington ensured that leaders Long Buckby Ravens could extend their lead to seven points after a3-0 away win over FC Higham. Higham Dragons succumbed to defeat for the second successive week as West Haddon ran out 3-2 victors. Aaron Parke was the pick of the marksmen, netting a double as Walgrave and Kennedys shared the points in a 4-4 draw.

Duston Garage (Bosch Service) Reserve Premier Division:
A 7-2 blitzing of Khalsa saw Harborough Town snare second place, a point behind Kislingbury, 6-2 victors at home to Pegasus. Paul Lewis, Barnes Gladman and Lee Thomas netted two apiece for Harborough. Weldon sit third after a 5-1 home success against neighbours Gretton. Stuart Porter opened the scoring for Weldon.  James Evans netted two for Whitefield in their 3-2 away win over near neighbours Milton, while Roade and Nomads drew 1-1. Harpole and Moulton shared the points with a 1-1 stalemate.

Reserve Division 1:
Dale Lewis struck home five, and club-mate Shaun Wilkes four as Blisworth savaged Bugbrooke St Michaels ‘B’ 13-0. The fine performance moves them top of the table on goal difference from Brixworth All Saints, 3-1 winners over Queen Eleanor. Henry Wright, Simon Linnell and Gareth Hughes were the home marksmen.

Reserve Division 2:
No games.
