Duston Garage (Bosch Service) Star Award :
Ristee
Towers for recording their first win since February 28th
Northamptonshire FA Lower Junior Cup:
Hopes were high amongst several of the League’s teams of emulating the
heroics of Kislingbury by eliminating UCL sides from the Lower Junior
Cup. Sadly success eluded Whitefield Norpol Reserves, Harpole Reserves,
and Corby Strip Mills, who fell to the reserve sides of ON Chenecks,
Sileby and Irchester respectively. Corby Khalsa’s reserve side however
did emerge as conquerors of Rushden & Higham Reserves. Clive Morgan and
Greg Taylor scored the goals that saw them progress 2-1. Kislingbury
Reserves could not match the first team either as they went down to
Peterborough SSPIO 3-2. Weldon went out to North Bucks side Yardley
Gobion by the same margin.
Gretton Reserves and Corby Danesholme Vikings both enjoyed more success
against Town League opposition. Ian Abraham’s brace gave Gretton the
edge, seeing of EYS 4-3. Gareth Walker’s performance was reminiscent of
the Norsemen from whom Danesholme take their name grabbing four goals as
his side romped to 7-0 win over Mereway United. Walker opened the
scoring from the penalty spot after 11 minutes. Injuries reduced Mereway
to 9 men in the second half allowing the hosts to score almost at will.
Michael Kerfoot, Lee Martin and substitute Scott Ash with the game’s
second spot-kick sealed Danesholme’s ninth successive game without
defeat.
Craig Turnbull ensured that Old Grammarians managed something no other
team has yet, breaching the defence of JK Blisworth Reserves for the
first time this season. However the firepower that Blisworth have
demonstrated in the league was enough to see them progress. Goals from
Andy Hopkinson and a Matty Farr double gave the visitors a 3-1 win.
Doubles for Charlie Pipe and James Hudson gave Wollaston a 4-3 win in
their derby game with Great Doddington. Nick Smith and Jamie Smith each
bagged braces for Clipston and Burton respectively. Burton however
proved the stronger running out 5-3 winners.
The two remaining all-Combination ties were settled by spot-kicks. The
all-Corby affair between Locomotives and Eagles finished 2-2. The Eagles
held out to take the win 3-2 in the shootout. Wilby and Kettering Nomads
Reserves tied 3-3 and needed sudden death penalties to separate them.
Wilby held their collective nerve to snatch it 6-5.
Russell Roofing Premier Division:
Weldon enjoyed a good day as the two key ties went in their favour.
Anthony McClear, Paul Docherty and Tim Williams all netted as they
cruised to a 3-1 win over reigning champions Harpole. The tie between
Harborough and Kislingbury ended in a 2-2 draw. The result allowed
Weldon to return to the top with a two point advantage. At the other end
of the table the 1-1 draw between Milton and Queen Eleanor does neither
side any favours. Jeff Davies and Jack Kaare netted for their respective
sides. Whitefield’s slump continues as they crashed spectacularly at
Roade losing 5-1. Rob Mobsby and Jack Burrows scored for Medbourne as
they ensured that Khalsa languish at the wrong end of the table for
another week. Wins for Corby Pegasus 3-1 away at Heyford, and Moulton
2-1 at home to Brixworth ensure they put move safely into mid-table.
Keystone Roofing Supplies Division 1:
First and second stay unchanged in Division 1 this week. A single goal
from Matt Russ was enough to settle the game between Drayton Grange and
JK Blisworth in favour of the hosts. Welford stay second after defeating
Wootton St George 3-1. That result saw Wootton slip to fourth after
Ringstead’s 4-2 home win over Finedon Volta. Craig Furlow helped himself
to a brace as Kettering Nomads put four past Stanion without reply. Cold
Ashby earned their maiden league victory 2-1 in the basement battle with
Stanwick. Spratton remain rooted to the bottom without a single point
after a 3-1 home defeat to Corby Kingfisher.
Rothenberger Tools Division 2:
Trick or treat came to Woodford on Saturday as Ristee Towers face Weedon.
Ristee have struggled to kill teams off this season and Weedon came
expecting to take the points. That was the trick, and the treat was for
Ristee as they claimed their first league win since February. Lee
Baldwin, Mark Linnit and Rob Thompson all struck to send the hosts into
raptures. They were made to work hard for the win but held on with the
final score 3-2. George Donnelly netted a treble for Gretton as they
proved too strong for Ranelagh, comfortably winning 5-0. Karl Haledron
scored the only goal of the game as Orchard Park defeated Bective 1-0.
Division 3:
The Ise Lodge juggernaut rolls on unabated, with Wilbarston the latest
side to succumb. Luke McIllroy grabbed a hat-trick and Luke Churchill
two as they cruised to a 5-2 win. The score could have been higher but
for the performance of Wilbo keeper Mark Cooper. Pete Harding and Lee
Pear grabbed the consolation strikes for Wilbarston. Corby Everards
scored eight for the second successive week. Dan White scooped half of
the goals himself as they swept Staverton aside 8-2.
Efforts from Jay Brown and Adam Mode gave Rising Sun the points
and the bragging rights over Wellingborough rivals Saxons. The result
sees Rising Sun move up to third place in the table.
Glen Ashton netted twice for fellow Wellingborough side WMC as
they defeated Crick 3-2.
Division 4:
Goal machine Steve O’Brien added another four goal haul to his season’s
tally. Ryan Grant nabbed the other as Kennedy’s found themselves on the
wrong end of a 5-2 mauling. Doubles from Luke MacCauley and Fred Techer
settled the Corby derby between Talisman and Kingswood 4-2. The result
allowed the victors to leapfrog their opponents into third place. Andy
Renaldsen was the highest scorer of the day hitting the net five times
as they destroyed Corby Hearth 6-2. Michael Ball found the net twice for
CSV United as they edged out Walgrave 2-1. The all Higham game between
the Dragons and FC Higham, and the West Haddon – Yardley tie both
finished 2-2.
Duston Garage (Bosch Service) Reserve
Premier Division:
Graeme Jardine netted twice, alongside a solo from George Simuenevic for
Corby Pegasus, but the goals proved to be little consolation as a
rampant Moulton side hit back through Colm Pacey (3), Aaron Blundell (2)
and a Rokib Uddin solo.
Reserve Division 1:
Another Danny Darker hat-trick saw Orchard Park extend their lead over
nearest rivals Blisworth to six points after their 4-1 win over Weldon
‘A’. Mark Sharman also
found the net three times as Brixworth overcame Stanion 4-1. The two
sides swap places in the table. There were high-scoring games at
Bugbrooke and Finedon. Bugbrooke thumped Wollaston 6-2, whilst Medbourne
trounced Finedon Volta 7-2. The spoils were shared in the games at Great
Houghton, where Queen Eleanor and Ringstead drew 2-2, and at Wootton
where the hosts tied 1-1 with Heyford.
Reserve Division 2:
Jordan Hobdey and Johnny Dunn netted braces as leaders Earls Barton
thumped Stanwick 5-1. Things continue to look grim for both Spratton and
Dainite after further defeats for both sides. Spratton crashed 3-0 away
to Islip whilst Dainite went down 4-0 at home to Drayton Grange.
Grammarians drew 1-1 away to Weedon, whilst Crick saw of Wilby 6-2.
