Northamptonshire FA Area Cup:
The odds on the final of the competition being an all-Combination affair
were slashed on Saturday, as league teams worked a demolition job on
opposition from other competitions. Queen Eleanor chalked up the first
elimination, putting out Deanshanger Athletic, sole survivors of the
North Bucks League. They were made to work hard for their win however,
and were indebted to a double from Ben Matthews for their 4-3
progression. Drayton Grange Reserves also had to work hard to eliminate
Banbury League side Kings Sutton Reserves. Goals from Iain White, Gary
Buckby and Jamie Deal saw them home 3-2.
A Kieran Flower hat-trick and a Pete Morrisey brace ensured that last
seasons beaten finalists Brixworth Reserves knocked out Town League side
Strip Mills Reserves. With Harlequins going out to Peterborough League
opposition, the Town League has just one side remaining in the
competition. That side is Blisworth ‘A’, 3-1 winners over Old
Grammarians.
Finedon Volta Reserves sadly came up short against Peterborough League
side Kingscliffe Reserves, going down to a heavy 5-1 defeat. It was the
sole blip on an otherwise successful day for Combination sides against
Peterborough League opposition. Netherton ‘A’ fell to a 4-2 penalties
defeat at home to Wollaston Reserves, whilst a brace from Alex Williams
saw Corby Talisman home 5-4 against Peterborough SSPIO. Mitchell Pengley
grabbed three and James Wood two, as rampant AFC Wymington put
Werrington to the sword 6-1. Kettering Park Rovers were in fine form
too, as Andy Renaldsen (2) and Dominic Machel (3) combined to put out
Peterborough Sports 5-2.
The remaining ties were all-Combination affairs and what entertaining
games they were, with no game seeing less than five goals. Andy
MacDonald opened the scoring for FC Higham away to Spratton Reserves, as
they won the lowest scoring tie 4-1. West Haddon Reserves defeated Crick
Reserves 5-1, whilst Finedon Kennedys came out on top, 4-2 winners away
Islip Reserves. There were braces for Marcus Abbot and Billy Ling as
Walgrave thumped Stanwick Reserves 5-2, and one for Dan White as
Everards stuffed Weedon Reserves 6-1. Ash Inwood joined the ranks of the
brace-baggers, as Long Buckby Ravens dominated Wootton St George
Reserves 7-2. The irrepressible Steve O’Brien weighed in with one goal
on what was a quiet day for him by his recent standards.
Russell Roofing Premier Division:
It was a day of mixed fortunes for the sides at the wrong end of the
table. A Michael Chong hat-trick ensured Weldon kept their two-point
advantage at the top of the Premier Division, after they thumped
struggling Milton 5-0. Danny Wright opened the scoring for Harborough
Town as they stayed second with a 4-0 win over Whitefield Norpol. Corby
Khalsa and Queen Eleanor both moved four points clear of Milton after
their respective victories. Eleanor held on to defeat Harpole 4-3, while
Tony Walker sealed a 2-0 win for Khalsa at home to Kislingbury. Mark
Drake and Ryan Suter netted twice each for Brixworth who cruised to a
4-0 home win over Heyford. Richard Chwaszcza netted twice for Pegasus,
but it was not enough as Roade, spurred on by a Lee Cowley treble
grafted hard to win 5-2. Medbourne and Moulton finished 6-2, with
hat-tricks for the home side’s Rob Mobsby and Jack Burrows.
Keystone Roofing Supplies Division 1:
Drayton Grange stay top, despite being given an almighty fright by
Finedon Volta. Hassan Murmin netted twice for the hosts, but Jed Brennan
notched the winner fro Drayton. Wootton stay second after their 6-1 win
over Stanion. Michael Ryan grabbed a hat-trick as the Villagers piled
more misery on the former Premier Division side. Ringstead moved third
after a 5-2 win at Kettering Nomads. Corby Kingfisher also climb the
table after a treble from Lee Genner and a Lee Sinclair brace tore
Stanwick apart. Steve Gibson chipped in with a sol effort to make the
final score 6-0. Braces for Dale Lewis and Chris Ingram condemned
Spratton to a sixth straight league defeat as Blisworth won 6-2. A 2-2
draw for Cold Ashby at home to Earls Barotn moves them above Stanion at
the bottom of the table.
Rothenberger Tools Division 2:
It’s ten games without defeat now for Danesholme Vikings as they came
from behind to defeat local rivals Gretton 3-2. The home side had taken
the lead through a Steven Chilton spot-kick, but Gareth Walker scored
twice, and Lee Pettigrew once to give the visitors victory. There were
braces for Jamie Smith and
Shaun Hegarty in the Burton-Strip Mills game, which ultimately went in
Strip Mills favour 4-3. Perry Nimmo and James Daldy both scored twice as
third-placed Grammarians overcame bottom side Weedon 5-1. Clipston moved
to fourth as Ristee failed to build on last weeks maiden win, slumping
to a 4-1 home defeat. Wollaston did capitalise however, and strikes from
Tom Woods, James Hudson and Charlie Pipe sealed the points away to
Bective, and allowed them to move clear of the bottom two. Sean Kilbane
sealed the 4-0 victory for Ranelagh over rivals Great Doddington, whilst
Nick Preedy nicked the crucial goal that gave Orchard Park a 4-3 win at
home to Islip.
Division 3:
Ise Lodge reclaimed top spot in the division after a 6-0 thumping of
Hillmorton, due in no small part to Sam Cope’s hat-trick. Rising Sun
moved second, level on points after a routine victory at Dainite. Tyler
Amphlett opened the scoring in their 3-1 victory. The defeat means that
in seven attempts, Dainite have yet to register a point. A fine solo
display from Luke Jones enabled Crick to move clear of trouble, with a
6-4 win over fellow strugglers Staverton. Jones was the pick of the home
marksmen claiming four of the strikes. With top spot all but beyond them
Mark Gater kept Wellingborough WMC’s hopes of second place alive,
netting twice in their 3-1 win at Corby Locomotives. Wilbarston continue
to have an up-and-down time of it, narrowly losing 2-1 at home to Wilby.
The hosts had taken the lead through Jamie Tann, but Wilby took the
points after goals from Dan Nolan and Jethro Hoy. Saxons and Corby
Eagles drew 2-2.
Division 4:
CSV struggled to break down a committed Higham Dragons side in the first
half at Victory Fields, and it was the visitors who created the better
chances. A half-time substitution turned the tide in the hosts favour as
replacement Joe Szreider netted two goals either side of goals from
Michael Ball and James Shiner. Corby Hearth stay rooted to the foot of
the table after their 6-0 thrashing at the hands of Corby rivals
Kingswood.
Duston Garage (Bosch Service) Reserve
Premier Division:
The top four remained unchanged this week. Thomas Richards
single-handedly dispatched Corby Khalsa Reserves, as his treble saw
Kislingbury retain top spot with a 3-1 home win. Weldon remain second
after a 6-3 win at Roade.
Barnes Gladman scored three for third-placed Harborough, and Adam
Jackson two for Whitefield Norpol as they defeated Milton 5-1 and
Harpole 4-0 respectively.
Moulton moved into fifth after a 5-0 win over Gretton. Rokib netted for
the second successive week, and Aaron Blundell grabbed two. ON Chenecks
‘A’ also climbed above Roade into sixth place after a 3-2 victory. Errol
Sutherland hit what proved to be the winner in their game with
struggling Pegasus. Kettering Nomads were the biggest movers, climbing
three places to eight after defeating Bugbrooke ’A’ 2-1.
Reserve Division 1:
Heyford narrowed the gap to six points after a 5-0 home thumping of
near-neighbours Bugbrooke ‘B’. Ian Grant netted twice for the home side.
Orchard Park slipped up on the road at Stanion, drawing 2-2. Despite an
Austen Milne brace, Weldon ‘A’ slipped to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of
Medbourne. Corby Loco’s 3-0 win away at Ringstead means that the Rangers
remain mired in trouble.
Reserve Division 2:
Harry Brindle netted twice for Earls Barton as they romped to 5-0 home
win over Dainite. Barton now hold a massive nine-point advantage over
their nearest rivals, although they have played one game more.
