Duston Garage (Bosch Service) Star Award :
Moulton who are the first side to take points off of Weldon in the
League this season.
Northamptonshire FA Junior Cup:
Few things are bemoaned more by managers than conceding late goals, and
it was just such an event that led to cup heartbreak for Queen Eleanor
Great Houghton. They had closed out UCL side Sileby Rangers for 118
minutes and the game looked set to go to penalty kicks when Jack Bartley
struck the cruellest of blows to put the visitors into the final.
Russell Roofing Premier Division:
Having seemed virtually unstoppable thus far Weldon will be relieved to
get away with a 4-4 draw, given that they were 3-0 down inside the first
20 minutes. A Paul
Djeneralovic brace, and solo efforts from Richard Moore and Alan
Docherty put them ahead, before a late goal salvaged a point for
Moulton. Kislingbury failed to capitalise on Weldon’s slip as they too
were held to a draw by Whitefield Norpol. Jay Vieyra put Whitefield
ahead before Duncan Eade pulled one back. Vieyra then saw red leaving
Whitefield to play for the better part of an hour with 10 men, and Eade
punished them getting his second of the game. However, yet another late
goal proved the difference maker as Whitefield levelled with six minutes
to go.
Brixworth triumphed in what could prove to be a crucial game in the
title race. They entertained third-placed Medbourne and took the points
comfortably after goals from Mark Drake, Henry Wright and Matt Colman.
The result sees both sides swap places on goal difference. Brixworth
have games in hand on both of the top two as well as their beaten
opponents.
At the bottom of the table Corby Khalsa snatched a point through a Joe
Bennett goal at home to Heyford. The result puts real daylight between
themselves and strugglers Queen Eleanor and Milton.
Owen Phillips scored early for Harpole as they dominated their
tie with Milton, easing to a 4-0 win. Corby Pegasus dropped one place on
goal difference after a 3-1 defeat at Roade.
Keystone Roofing Supplies Division 1:
Last week’s victory over Cold Ashby seems to have been a flash in the
pan for Spratton who remain mired in trouble after conceding six to
Blisworth for the second time this season. Lewis Curtis netted twice for
Blisworth. Cold Ashby ran Finedon Volta close, but Sean Wesley hit the
decisive goal to deny the bottom side a point. Stanwick provided a
surprise result, defeating Kettering Nomads 2-1 to swap places with
Spratton. Welford’s 2-0 defeat of Earls Barton keeps up the pressure on
league leaders Ringstead. Welford have two games in hand over the
table-toppers with the gap at five points. The gap would have been cut
to three but for a goal from Alex Willis which gave his side a 2-1
victory.
Rothenberger Group Division 2:
Carl Hughes scored the only goal of the game against Bective, to cap a
good day for Old Grammarians. Having begun the day three points behind
long-time leaders Danesholme Vikings, the Wellingborough side sit second
solely on goal difference after the Viking’s surprise defeat. By a
strange twist of fate, OGs have local rivals Great Doddington to thank
for their good fortune. Brett Greenhalf netted twice for Doddington, and
singles from Duane Hall and Simon Mills gave them the win after Daniel
McShefferty (2) and Gareth Walker looked to have saved a point.
Gretton’s 6-1 demolition of derby opponents Strip Mills moves them third
ahead of Clipston who drew 2-2 with Burton. Stewart Chapman notched
twice for Gretton.
Danny Rodgers opened the scoring for Islip as they condemned Weedon to
their thirteenth league defeat of the season. Islip eventually ran out
4-2 winners. Mark Seaman scored for Ristee as they drew 2-2 with fellow
strugglers Wollaston.
Division 3:
Luke Churchill’s double all but assured Ise Lodge of their eleventh
league win of the season as they cruised past Saxons 4-1. Corby Eagles
soared into second place with a 4-2 win on the road at Crick. Rising Sun
slipped down a place after drawing 0-0 with Corby Everards. Brian
Farrell scored the second goal for Corby Locomotives that saw them
leapfrog opponents Hillmorton. Ill luck ruined Wilbarston’s hopes moving
clear of the bottom of the table when they entertained Wellingborough
WMC. James Jameson had put the visitors ahead slotting home after a
corner. Lee Pears equalised for the hosts with a coolly taken penalty
before half-time, but Lady Luck well and truly deserted them when Steve
Chambers attempted clearance struck the back of the Wilbarston net.
Dainite stay bottom after Dean King’s brace gave Wilby the 2-0 win.
Division 4:
Corby Kingswood’s early season form has deserted them, as they have gone
from title challengers to mid-table also-rans. Jason Fallaize grabbed a
hat-trick for Wymington as they went nap against the Corby side. The 5-0
result is Kingswood’s third successive league defeat as they slip to
sixth. Leaders Long Buckby Ravens were rarely threatened as they ran out
6-3 winners over Yardley. Pick of the goal scorers was Colin Nixon who
chipped in a brace. Andy Cadman’s goal was the difference-maker for
third-placed West Haddon as they won 3-2 against CSV.
Corby Talisman have benefitted from the enforced break and bounced back
from heavy defeats to Long Buckby and Kingswood, and recorded their
second successive high-scoring win. Darren Malone and Adam Loftus netted
braces for Talisman and Walgrave respectively, but Scott Longdin’s
hat-trick helped see Talisman home 7-5. Kettering Park Rovers are
quietly stealing a march on the leading pack. Cup exploits have left
them with several games in hand, and their fifth successive away win in
all competitions was assured when Dominic Machal smashed in four. Glen
Smith grabbed a consolation for Corby Hearth as the game finished 5-1.
Elsewhere Kennedy’s took the points with a 2-1 derby win over Higham
Dragons.
Duston Garage (Bosch Service) Reserve
Premier Division:
Weldon pulled themselves back into title contention after defeating
Milton 3-1. Derek Simmons scored twice. Leaders Whitefield will rue
their failure to take their chances as they went down 1-0 to Harborough
Town, a result which means the gap is a single point. Victories for two
of the bottom three provided the divisions upsets of the day. Corby
Pegasus were bottom at the start of the day but Alex Sewell, Danny Burke
and Graeme Jardine all scored to give them a 3-1 victory over ON
Chenecks A. Fellow Corby side Khalsa also tasted victory with a 2-0 win
over Kettering Nomads.
Bugbrooke ‘A’ move to the bottom of the table following their 6-2 defeat
at home to Gretton. Roade won 1-0 against Moulton.
Reserve Division 1:
The ton has been reached for Ringstead. Queen Eleanor visited Gladstone
Street and smashed in eight goals to break the hundred goals against
barrier. The current count stands at 104. Fellow strugglers Bugbrooke
‘B’ shipped ten without reply to leaders Orchard Park. Doubles for Ben
Shellswell and Richard Carr condemned third from bottom Corby
Locomotives to a 4-1 defeat. The consolation came from Kevin McBlaine.
Brixworth stay second after winning the second part of their
double-header with Medbourne 2-0. Heyford took advantage of the
Leicestershire side’s defeat to move third after thrashing Finedon Volta
7-0. David Drinkwater got three and Paul MacIntyre two. Gavin Boddington
opened the scoring for Wollaston who close the gap on Medbourne to two
points. Blisworth overcame Stanion 4-0.
Reserve Division 2:
Barring any unforeseen deductions, Earls Barton are five points from
sealing the league title. Harry Brindle scored twice as they cruised to
a 7-0 win over Crick. The leaders were aided by their nearest rivals
Harpole ‘A’ losing 4-2 at home to Islip. Ashley Burton scored twice but
they proved to be a consolation.
Weedon moved to within a point of Harpole, winning 4-1 against
Drayton Grange. Stanwick’s fifth league win of the season came courtesy
of an own goal. Janis Ciublis put Stanwick ahead, before Robert Hall
pulled one back for Spratton. Craig Turnbull, Michael Boltong and Dave
Mayhew all scored to give Old Grammarians the points and bragging rights
in their derby win over Wilby.
