Duston Garage (Bosch Service) Star Award :
Long
Buckby Ravens for eight consecutive league wins, and who remain unbeaten
in the league this season.
Division Four Cup Semi-Final:
In their second season since reforming, Walgrave Amber find themselves
on the glory trail, earning their spot in the League Cup final with a
5-2 home win over high-flying AFC Wymington. In the early stages
Wymington created the better chances but were unable to apply the killer
touch. A scuffed effort in the six-yard area dribbled wide when it was
easier to score, before a free kick also evaded the left-hand upright.
Walgrave soaked up the early pressure and took the lead on 13 minutes
through Adam Lofthouse’s deft header. Gary Munnelly whipped in a
free-kick from the left which brushed his strike-partner on the way in.
The sticky surface stifled play for the next quarter hour, before
Lofthouse doubled his tally for the day on 31 minutes with a powerful
rising shot. From the resulting kick-off, Walgrave robbed Wymington of
possession and Gary Munnelly slammed in the third, putting Walgrave in
comfortable control of the game.
A half time rollicking worked wonders for Wymington, who had seemed dead
and buried at 45 minutes, with the early exchanges again being dominated
by their midfield and forward line.
Two early chances came and went before James Cornell was pulled
down in the area on 55 minutes. Mitchell Pengelly stepped up but his
penalty was saved by Adam Burti, but the taker made amends by putting
home the rebound.
Walgrave’s response was to head up the other end of the field, and a
fine move was denied the perfect finish when the ball rebounded from the
underside of the bar and spun dizzily out of play. Within a minute
Walgrave were awarded a penalty of their own. Wymington’s stand-in
goalkeeper James Wood, pulled off a save that any regular goalkeeper
would be proud of, but could not prevent Joe Gartland from scoring at
the second attempt. Gary Munnelly netted his second of the day on 73
minutes after a flowing passing move. 15 minutes from time, James
Cornell grabbed a consolation for Wymington, firing home a low shot from
a breakaway attack.
Russell Roofing Premier Division:
The eagerly anticipated first versus second clash between Weldon and
Kislingbury was one of many games to fall foul of the weather this
weekend, so attention turned to the chasing pack. Brixworth took full
advantage, taking all three points from one of their games in hand. A
double from Henry Wright set Brixworth on the way to a 3-0 victory over
Roade. His goals and one from Ryan Suter extended All Saints’ unbeaten
run to 8 games, with the result being their sixth successive victory and
puts them within a point of the top. It was honours even in the
Leicestershire derby between Medbourne and Harborough Town. Medbourne
took the lead from the spot in the first half, but let the lead slip
with another late goal, conceding with 90 minutes on the clock.
Milton ended a run of five successive league defeats with a 2-2 draw at
home to nine-man Milton. Paul Eaton and Dom Spinelli scored to equalise
twice for the hosts after they had gone behind to goals from Dave
Trimble and Alex Sewell. Lee Bushall and Andy Kirby netted one apiece as
Whitefield earned a 2-0 home win over Heyford, while Harpole came back
down to earth with a bump after last weeks defeat of Kislingbury, with a
1-0 defeat away at Moulton. Nick Hodges got the goal.
Keystone Roofing Supplies Division 1:
Wootton’s 6-3 win over Cold Ashby pushed the Villagers up to third in
the table. Darren Frost’s treble, Chris Ryan’s brace and an own-goal
compounded Cold Ashby’s misery as they slumped to their thirteenth
defeat in sixteen outings. Earls Barton and Kettering Nomads who started
the day third and fourth respectively, cancelled each other out with a
2-2 draw. Tony Abbot and Kyle Morgan scored for the hosts, while Nomads
responded through Chris Bright and Mark Jackson.
Stanwick’s mini-revival came to an abrupt end in the first half of their
game with Blisworth. Marc Cross, Edd Stewart and Sam Holmes all scored
before 35 minutes were on the clock. A goalless second half saw the
match finish 3-0. John Savage meanwhile grabbed a brace as Finedon Volta
defeated Stanion 3-1.
Rothenberger Group Division 2
Wollaston gave warning that their current station, third from bottom may
be a false position caused by the backlog of games as they thumped
Burton United 5-0. Lee Warman was the pick of the scorers, netting
twice. The Vics have up to four games in hand over other teams in the
division, and a decent return from those games could yet provide a
launch-pad for a late surge for the top. There were mixed fortunes for
cellar-dwellers Ristee Towers and Weedon. Weedon snatched only their
second point of the season with a 2-2 draw away at Orchard Park, while
Ristee crashed to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Bective. Carl Juzyk
opened the scoring for the hosts. Gretton’s 3-1 success on the road at
Clipston moves them within three points of the top, with two games in
hand over the third and second placed sides. Old Grammarians took
advantage of Clipston’s defeat to reclaim second place with a 2-1
success away at Strip Mills.
Division 3:
Despite extending their unbeaten run to twelve games, Corby Eagles will
be disappointed to drop points against fellow Corby outfit, and Area Cup
finalists Everards. Chris Chalmers opened Everards account on the day,
as the game ended in a 3-3 draw. Rising Sun took full advantage closing
the gap to three points with a 3-0 home success against Dainite. Adam
Harrison bagged two for the Wellingborough side.
Corby Locomotives gained a vital 4-2 win against Wilbarston but were
made to work hard for it. Brian Farrell and Paul Bonar put the visitors
two up in the early stages, but a penalty shortly before half time gave
Wilbarston the opportunity to reduce the arrears. Stephen Chambers saw
his spot-kick rebound from the post, in what was to become a common
occurrence, before Pete Harding lashed the ball home. The strike is
Harding’s fifteenth of the season, a remarkable achievement given
Wilbarston’s lowly league position.
Sean-Paul Devlin netted his second in as many games to equalise
for the hosts. Hot-shot Harding was then denied by both uprights, a sure
sign that the fates had turned against his side and so it proved as
Farrell grabbed his second of the day, before the win was capped by an
own goal.
Division 4:
Thirteen, unlucky for some, but not it seems for Long Buckby Ravens who
reached the milestone of thirteen league games unbeaten with a 3-1
success over CSV United. Ryan Grant scored twice for the league leaders
as they notched up their eighth league win on the bounce. It is now four
wins and fourteen points apiece for the two Higham sides after
respective 5-3 victories. FC Higham overcame Kettering Park Rovers
thanks in no small part to Tom Cronin and Micky Gee who both weighed in
with doubles. The fire in John Lawman’s feet shows no sign of being
extinguished as his shooting boots continue to boost Higham Dragons
upturn in form. His excellent treble set the Dragons on the way to home
success over Yardley.

Premier Division:
The blip has become an unequivocal downturn for Kislingbury as they
surrendered the advantage to Weldon. A fourth consecutive game without a
win was made all the more painful by the margin of defeat. Mark Bradley,
Chris Madden, Stuart Porter and Scott Grant all registered as Weldon ran
out easy 4-0 victors. In the only other surviving game, Kettering Nomads
and ON Chenecks ‘A’ drew 1-1.
Reserve Division 1:
Ringstead Rangers secured back-to-back wins for the first time since
January 2009, with victory over Wollaston. The hosts well-documented
defensive frailties were there for all to see as they conceded four
goals, but their forward line found the right formula to ensure a
further three points with the 6-4 margin.
Reserve
Division 2:
After their early season struggles, Spratton have had only the one
defeat in their last six games prior to their home tie with third placed
Weedon. Craig Hall and Shane Bouher ensured that it became one in seven,
scoring once each to give Spratton a creditable 2-2 draw.
